Transcripts!

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Prospects can now upload their academic transcripts to their profiles so that college coaches can both view and download the important information they need in order to make a decision about your ability to be a part of their program and their university.

We recently added this feature because we talk with college coaches all day every day and many of them have mentioned how vital these transcripts are to their ability to make decisions.  That’s why we highly encourage you to upload your transcript as soon as possible.

It’s really pretty easy to post to your account.  Once you have the transcript in an uploadable document (like a Word Doc or PDF) you just click the “Browse” button and find that document and attach it to your profile.  All of this takes place at the bottom of the “Academic Info” section that you can edit in your profile at any time.

Two More Camps to Consider

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

One of the big advantages to talking with college coaches on a daily basis like we do at Go Big Recruiting is finding out about some of the outstanding new camps that pop up across the country.  Here’s some information on two new teaching camps we just heard about:

Are you a big guy looking to improve your skills?  Check out an OL/DL/TE clinic run by a pair of New York Jets coaches that focuses on YOU instead of the pretty boy skill guys that get all of the headlines:

Is Academic Reputation important to you?

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

If the answer is yes, you need to seriously consider attending the New England Elite Football Camp (www.neelitefootballclinic.com).

WHEN:  July 6-9

WHERE: Waltham, Massachusetts on the campus of Bentley University

WHY: Because the New England Elite Football Camp is a one-stop shop for any high school student-athlete interested in playing college football at an elite academic institution like those that are found in the Ivy, Patriot, and NESCAC (sometimes called the “little Ivy”) conferences.

What makes The ELITE Camp different:

  1. They are THE ONLY camp that has EVERY NESCAC college represented during the same session. In fact 8 of the 10 schools send the HEAD COACH.

 2. Six of the eight IVY league schools (Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown) will have coaches there and Yale may end up sending a coach as well.

 3. Their staff consists of over 40 college coaches representing colleges from D1 to D3. This is the most extensive staff of any camp for one session in New England.

Another advantage to the camp is the evening clinic, which allows prospects to do colleges visits during the day. Players from out-of-town are able to tour schools such as Harvard, Tufts, Brown, Bates, Amherst, Holy Cross, Bentley, Williams and many more during the day and still be fresh for the evening camp session. Again, this saves time and travel.

Penn State, Kentucky, Colgate, …

Are just a few of the dozens of schools that have been on Go Big Recruiting within the last 48 hours searching our database of prospects and showing interest/requesting film from student-athletes that fit what they are looking for via the “XYZ University is interested in you!” emails.

If you received one of these emails personally sent out by a college coach, we highly recommend logging into your account and adding that school if you have ANY interest in that school now or think you might eventually.

Miami (OH), Kent State, St. Cloud, Plymouth St., and Columbia are just a few of the other schools that have also searched the database of prospects yesterday.

Tell a Friend or Teammate!

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

That’s all you need to do in order to be able to send your video and information to 3 additional schools for free.

It doesn’t matter what sport they play.  Just as long as you email them via the “tell a friend” box in the bottom right of your student homepage after you log-in to your account.

As soon as they receive that, sign up for Go Big, and make an order, you will get an email with your very own coupon code so that you can order three free schools.  Better yet, as long as they sign up from your “tell a friend” email, they will get three free schools when they go to make their first order as well!

It’s that easy.  Take some time to let your friends and teammates know about Go Big, the best way to submit your videos and information to college coaches!

Zero Percent

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

That is the chance that you have of getting seriously recruited by a school that has never received your game film or information.  Think about that for a second.  If they have never heard of you or gotten a look at your film or information, there is absolutely no chance that they will offer you a scholarship or a spot on their team.

That does not mean you should send your game film and information to every school in the country.  It does mean that if there is even a tiny chance you might eventually be interested in a school, you need to submit your game film and profile information to them as soon as possible.  Whether you use Go Big or go the old-fashioned route with DVDs and letters through the mail, the time is now.  What do you have to lose?

More importantly, how do you know if you never try?

Nutrition and Core

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

If I could go back to my high school days and change anything it would be my failure to properly strengthen my core muscles and eating habits.  I didn’t realize until I got in the NFL how important your diet is and how critical it is that you are strong throughout your mid-section and low back.

You are what you eat which is why lean meats with high protein and a lot of fruits and vegetables are the way to go.  I spent way too much time eating fast food and I think I could have been even better if I had realized earlier how important that facet of my training was.

I rarely did abs or sit-ups in high school because I mistakenly thought those muscles were mainly for aesthetic purposes and didn’t realize the amount of strength, power, and balance, that is garnered when having a solid core.  As a result, I had some back issues that started in high school and effectively ended my NFL career after seven years after I needed back surgery to repair herniated discs at multiple levels.

Make sure all summer you take care of your nutrition and core and don’t let either one of those two things stop you from your goals
